THE NGO THAT BOOSTS A COASTAL COMMUNITY
It is known as the garden of the coast and as a curious fact is the only town on our coast that has no bars. The last one closed its doors about a year ago to make way for the fourth supermarket around the square, third of Chinese capital.
We are talking about the community of Matapalo de Santa Cruz, belonging to the eighth district of our canton; Cabo Velas. About a decade ago, a non-governmental non-profit organization arrived in this community to inspire and help them to grow and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants. This is Fundación Futuro Brillante, whose work over the years has been commendable. Together with Adi Matapalo, this NGO has promoted important projects for the community such as the construction of the beautiful communal playground and the construction of its own building for the benefit not only of the inhabitants of Matapalo, but of many other neighboring towns that come to this place to receive training, INA courses, programming courses for young people, English classes for youth and adults and the best of all is that all this is done at no cost to the community.
They remain in constant contact with the Municipality of Santa Cruz for projects such as recycling and general support to their people. They also have their own vegetable garden where in addition to educating the population in the responsible and sustainable use of resources, they also sell their organic products to continue financing and supporting their projects.
They always surprise us with new projects, with that positivism and altruistic spirit of their staff and volunteers. It is definitely worth highlighting the work of this extraordinary organization. Every town should have a “Bright Future” like Matapalo.
